Carola is a researcher and lecturer at the Institute of Public Administration, Leiden University. Her research is focused on the interaction of both public professionals and citizens in processes of co-production. In co-production, citizens contribute to the delivery of a wide variety of public services. Examples include client councils in health care organizations, neighborhood watch schemes and parents organizing activities at primary schools. In October 2017, Carola defended her doctoral thesis entitled “Engagement of citizens and public professionals in the co-production of public services”. In her PhD-research, she was particularly interested in why citizens are willing to engage, how professionals perceive these new ways of public service delivery, and how actual collaboration occurs.
